Quit India and Later

Quit India Movement and Later:The Quit India Movement, also known as the August Movement, was a movement launched at the Bombay session of the All-India Congress Committee by Mahatma Gandhi on 9 August 1942, during World War II, demanding an end to British rule in India.This movement arise due to the Cripps Mission, it  was a failed attempt in late March 1942 by the British government to secure full Indian cooperation and support for their efforts in World War II. The mission was headed by a senior minister Sir Stafford Cripps . Under this Movement :-

  • Mahatma Gandhi decided to initiate a new phase of movement against the British in the middle of the Second World War. The British must quit India immediately, he told them.
  • To the people he said, “Do or die” in your effort to fight the British- but you must fight- non- violently. Gandhi Ji  and other leaders were jailed at once but the movement spread. It specially attracted peasants  and the youth who gave up their studies to join it. Communications and symbols of state authority were attacked all over the country. In many areas the people set up their own governments.
